(and this is just an exteremely small sampling). Rendering one’s favourite non-gargoyle characters as Disney gargoyles is quite the trend. I’m sorry.īut Disney gargoyles are a lot of fun to draw, and I’ve had them on my brain lately, what with tying myself in knots waiting for the GNs to come out (buy them!) Hey, look, it’s (Classic) Exedore as a Disney gargoyle which I drew.

To this day, I think I was making fun of Neo-Exsedol, but in a loving sort of way. November Has Come is one I've waffled on many times before, but I'm linking it here again because it's in the spirit of the season, and looks back to a more innocent time when I was first navigating my way through the mess that my interest in Exedore had become. I go through phases where I think certain fanfics are the biggest crumpled balls of paper I have every written, then I think those same stories aren't too bad. Probably nobody on my f-list is going to get this, and I've been meaning to go back and redraw it so the cloth folds don't look like crap, but I like the drawing. The notion of Robotech fans/producers being aware of "real" anime crops up from time to time in these comics, which doesn't surprise me, though it likely a lost art these days. I do wonder if the original artist was simply "copying Astro Boy" or had some awareness of Tezuka's style beyond that. So on a whim, I decided to colourize one panel, making a few tweaks to the existing colour schemes so that they could fit with the new designs (also, correcting the original lettering, which misspelled the character's name as "Exadore").īreetai here seems obviously based on Tezuka's "Duke Red" character design, though I can't find a basis for Exedore so far. Aftermath was horrible, but this was pretty amusing, and became even more so as I was starting to get into Tezuka's more mature works ( Phoenix, MW, Apollo's Song, Ode to Kirihito). May the Fourth be with you! Sorry about the nerd moment, but this should be no surprise coming from the guy who has a life-sized Stormtrooper standing guard at the front door of the. This is from a back-up strip in issue #5 of the Robotech miniseries Invid War: Aftermath, in which a parody of the opening scenes of Robotech is illustrated in a mock Osamu Tezuka style.
